Mutoh announces the production start-up of a completely new series direct-to-vinyl high-performance mild-solvent printers, called the Mutoh Spitfire series.

The new Spitfire series will be offered in two different models, 65-inch (1.6 meters) and 90-inch (2.2 meters). Printing widths are respectively 64.68-inch and 88.58-inch. The Spitfire printers are capable of printing directly on a wide range of low-cost uncoated vinyl and banner using GO Geo mild solvent ink.

Ideal Application
Mutoh's Spitfire mild solvent printer is targeted at sign businesses that require high quality, volume production of mid-term outdoor prints. Application possibilities encompass production of mid-term outdoor durable signs, such as corporate signs, stage and window graphics, POS displays, backlit box signage, construction announcements, vehicle graphics, indoor graphics such as photo blow ups, floorgraphics, and more.

Mutoh Spitfire 65/90
Mutoh’s new Spitfire 65-inch (1.6 meters) and Spitfire 90-inch (2.2 meters) direct-to-vinyl mild solvent printers will perfectly address the needs of typical sign makers, focusing on volume production of outdoor prints, who require mid-term outdoor use and high to medium printing speed on standard available outdoor uncoated substrates.

Equipped with four latest generation 360 nozzle/color piezo-electric drop-on-demand inkjet heads, the Spitfire printers combine high speed and high quality printing. They incorporate Dynamic Variable Dot Imaging technology, enabling production of multiple and unique ink dots and the possibility to individually adjust the size of ink droplets. Print resolutions offered are 360 x 360 dpi and 720 x 720 dpi.

For top quality photo output on uncoated substrates (720 dpi, 4 passes per color), print speed amounts to 64 ft2/hr--6 m²/h. For commercial production prints on standard uncoated vinyls (720 dpi, 2 passes per color), Spitfire offers real-time print speeds up to 139 ft2/hr--13 m²/hr. In high speed mode, the machines will deliver speeds of up to 215 ft2/hr--20 m²/h. In draft mode, speeds of more than 376 ft2/hr--35 m²/h are possible.

Extensive media compatibility is made possible thanks to the Spitfire's built-in digitally controlled four heating elements: one for media acclimatization before printing, one under the head for ink fixation and two after printing for post-fixing and drying of the prints. As a result, for day-to-day production speed printing, users will not require any additional drying system.

Spitfire Ink System
The Spitfire 8 ink channel printers are set up in 2 x 4 color configuration. GO Geo inks offer a high saturation, resulting in brilliant colors and a wide comfortable color gamut. The inks have excellent drying and drop fixation characteristics, allowing fast print speeds on a wide range of popular self-adhesive PVC. As a result of this high saturation characteristics, ink restrictions can be set high, resulting in low ink consumption, although keeping much brilliance throughout the entire color pallet at all luminance levels.

GO Geo inks, delivered in safe, easy-to-use 220 ml ink cassettes or GO uFill cassetes allow swift exchange, will resist to cleaners, detergents and commercially available degreasers as good as high-end solvent printer ink. Weather accelerator tests on Spitfire outputs predict an outdoor durability of up to 3 years without lamination.
